Be Your Type
I’m Sumeesh (mee) — a typographer, calligrapher, and visual artist from Kerala, India. For a long time, I carried a deep desire to make a difference in the world. But over time, I found myself feeling overwhelmed by its vastness — like a small dot trying to leave an imprint on something too expansive to hold.
One day, I came across a phrase that changed my perspective: “We are making great changes to this part of the world.” That idea grounded me. I realized that if I focus on my own part of the world — my thoughts, my space, my surroundings, my language, my community — I can create something meaningful. Even the smallest changes make a difference. This understanding drives my work.
When I say make the world beautiful, I also ask myself, What is beauty? Beauty is subjective; it’s personal. So, I chose to create a world that I feel is beautiful, one that resonates with me. Even if others may not appreciate it, that is okay. What matters most is that I stay true to my vision and my voice.
As a typographer and calligrapher, I express myself through letterforms — each one crafted with intention and meaning. Typography is not just a tool for communication; it’s a way of perceiving and engaging with the world around me. Even my name, suMEEsh, carries this sentiment.
I designed my logo to emphasize 'mee', because I believe in the power of focusing on my own uniqueness. It’s about refining my voice, my identity, my type — that’s the essence of my work.
